| When President Barack Obama took office, he promised increased transparency, communication and participation would be three major priorities for the new administration - a fitting pledge given that today's government serves an ultraconnected and technologically advanced constituency. Combined with an economic meltdown and increased security threats, this has required government agencies to be more effective, well optimized and highly communicative. Technology is at the core of meeting these demands, and will ultimately help the public sector deliver on its promises to connect more effectively with constituents. It's commonly suggested that government is 10 to 15 years behind the private sector in its use of enabling technologies.
